The Story of the Laptop Lagniappe

“It was a dark and stormy night”….no, wait, that’s not right.

The Laptop Lagniappe was born out of necessity—I fly a lot and often on planes too small for even a regular rolling computer bag to fit either in the overhead bin or under the seat. Not wishing to risk my laptop in the baggage compartment via those infamous pink tagged gate checked luggage, I tried to think of a way to carry my laptop on a plane and protect it at the same time. The idea of the knitted bag cropped up and after several trial bags and yarns, the design and pattern was finalized. Application has been made to register the Laptop Lagniappe trademark.

The design went through several names before settling on Laptop Lagniappe. Lagniappe is a Cajun term meaning “a little something extra”. In this case, it’s the little extra padding with a handle making it very convenient to pull your laptop from a case and keep it safely on a plane.  I even use them for other things like magazines, work papers or such.
